A quick Google search led me to dozens of books to keep me busy. Lord of the Flies was one such title that caught my eye. I picked up the novel on CD at the library. The author William Golding narrates in his solemn british accent. As with just about every book I read, I had no idea what the plot was when I began. The story begins with a couple boys finding each other on an island. You find out they crashed there and no adults survived. You don't know how many boys there are or all of their ages. Quickly, two of the older boys rise to chief and head hunter. Slowly, order on the island dissolves. I'm not sure if they'll get rescued or kill each other first.
I had a talk with Lucas' aunt who is a high school English teacher. She explained Lord of the Flies is Golding's statement on war. She also said it's a very hard book to read on your own. I appreciate the sentiment, but I am about 10 years older than her typical student.
