I didn't wait long to pop it into the CD player in my car. I was immediately drawn in during the preface from the man who originally interviewed Nitta Sayuri. He fills in the reader on how geisha never speak out because they are afraid. Well, Sayuri had lived in America for quite some time before sharing her story through hours of interviews. Even though she felt safe to tell her story, the author still changed some names to protect her and those in her life. Sayuri also didn't want the book published until she, and a few other key people, passed away. All the secrecy makes the story even more intriguing. The narrator, Elaina Erika Davis, speaks in a soft, staccato voice with an ever so slight Japanese accent.
I'm on the four disc already. I think about the story during the middle of the day and can't wait for my drive to and from work now.
