I wasn't that impressed with Josh Turner's song selection on his album Haywire. I had higher hopes for Punching Bag. When the first thing you hear is "Let's get ready to rumble with the tornado of testosterone..." it lowers your expectations immediately. Josh Turner is good looking and has a great voice. I just seem to only like a few songs far and few between.
Sometimes I'm just not sure about country music. The songs always tell a very obvious story and use a lot of analogies. Songs about turnip greens, lassoing a tornado and being a punching bag don't impress me much. They're so cliche I can guess the next line.

They (the bridal industry, pinterest, theknot.com) tell you every detail counts at a wedding, each little nuance needs special attention, nothing can be overlooked. Give me a break. I decided too much of wedding planning is about impressing your guests. Took me long enough to admit it. The reason it came up is because I need to decide on ceremony programs here pretty quick. I don't like the ones my church wants to make, and I don't want to spend much at all.. like $20 is all I want to spend. No one except my mom and I will even keep one. Ok, maybe if someone else will be getting married soon, they might keep one as a reference. As such, I spent a little time designing my own. They're nothing fancy-pants, razzle dazzle, or blow-your-socks-off, but they're pretty. I just got to check with the church to make sure I got all the wording right!
With so much to do, we mustn't forget the candles for the candelabra at the ceremony. The church's wedding coordinator said she could order me some since they have to be dripless tapered candles and those can't just be found anywhere apparently. I decided just to do it myself. Lucas and I hit up good old Google for the best places to buy them. We found 100candles.com was the cheapest. For 14 12" ivory candles, it was $15, but shipping and tax brought the total to $24. Not a huge expense. Hopefully the candles add to the ambience of the ceremony.
To some, three bridal showers might be the most amazing thing ever. For me, it's exhausting and overwhelming. This last shower was in Lucas' hometown of Creston. It was my first time attending/hosting a Pampered Chef party, which is a sweet deal. Based on how much your guests spend, you as the host get perks, lots and lots of perks. We also had to do a bit of a cooking demonstration, which we excelled at, of course. Thank you everyone for coming and helping stock our kitchen full of necessities and many un-necessities. It was also a great chance for me to meet more of Lucas' family friends and relatives. His family is huge so I'm not sure I'll ever meet everyone, but I got years and years to try.
There are so many trendy wedding must-do's. I've tried really hard not to get wrapped up in them. One, I did. It's blowing bubbles when the bride and groom leave the church. The pictures look really cool and is prefer not to get pelted with rice or have flower pedals all over the place. I'm hoping my guests do an amazing job bubbling up as we leave the church. I'd been price comparing bubbles at Hobby Lobby and the Dollar Store when we went to Walmart for something and came out with 200 bubbles. They were the same price as Hobby Lobby's sale so I figured it was safe to buy them at $15 for 100.
I've been mentally ready to buy a house since I was 22. I am still waiting on the day to be financially ready. While I wait, I like to see what homes are on the market, what neighborhoods I'd like to live in and what upgraded I'd make. The past three weeks I've been listening to Home Rich on CD. I knew a lot of stuff in the book but learned more about mortgages, paperwork, selling, home equity, refinancing, etc. I finally finished it. Hopefully the information can stay fresh enough when the time comes, or I'll be checking it back out again from the library.
After a productive morning, Lucas and I decided to chill away the afternoon with a movie. Being too productive and then too lazy, going out to the Redbox was not an option. Unfortunately, our Netflix streaming options are pretty limited. So instead of watching a new release, we went for a 14-year-old throwback For Love of the Game. It was a pretty good movie that got me choked up. To be fair though, I cry very easily in movies. Watching Mufasa die gets me every time. I liked the story line and flow of the film. However, Kevin Kostner's character, pitcher Billy Chapel, was a bit of a jerk to his love interest Jane Aubrey. If I were her, I wouldn't have played games for five years. I don't know many woman who would. It really shows the passion Chapel has for baseball and makes you think about what's important in your life. What is your passion? What could you not live without?
Close your eyes and imagine dimming the lights, hearing water lap up on the beach, the smell of mint relaxing your body, and warm hands caressing your muscles. This was our experience today at Sahar's in West Des Moines. I had a gift certificate for the salon and decided to be sweet and include Lucas in on the pampering for Valentine's Day. We signed up for an hour-long couple's swedish massage. It was both of our first time's to have a professional massage. Our massage therapists were professional, welcoming, and comforting. No hanky panky. It was amazing to have 60 minutes to let my brain think happy thoughts. Lucas would have never thought to do a massage before, but after, he admitted he'd want to do it again. If you've never done it, treat yourself. Totally worth it.
The best part of getting married is all the great stuff you get. OK, not really, but it's a really big perk. We've gotten so many amazing items at two bridal showers, and we still have one more this weekend. I want to make sure it all gets put to use, now. I was able to entice a few friends to come hang at my place with key words "fondue" and "wine." I was torn between cheese and chocolate fondue but decided on chocolate. I picked up some strawberries, pretzels, nuts, and marshmallows for dipping and dunking. I was also able to use our new saucers, table runner, and wine aerator. An aerator swirls the air into the wine as it pours into your glass to release aromas and enhance flavors. Same principal goes for when people swirl the wine in their glass. This just looks cooler. It really does work. My first glass, I forgot I had it. The second glass was much smoother and more flavorful. A great $20 or so gift!
What better day to buy a wedding veil than Valentine's Day? It is my final accessory to purchase for the big day. I've always imagined wearing a veil during the ceremony. Especially since my dress is lower in the back, a veil will be a classy compliment. My dress has beautiful lace and beading and a gorgeous blingy belt so I don't want the veil to compete. I just wanted a simple light ivory veil "fingertip" length which is about 36 inches long.
I was going to buy one at the boutique where I bought my dress, however, it was $75. That seemed like a lot for a yard of pretty tulle. So where did I turn? Etsy, of course! I found this one pictured for $31 plus $6 for shipping. The shop had tons of great reviews and happy customers. She also allows returns which is nice, just in case the color doesn't match my gown. |
