My First Time |
|
I survived my first swim in open water. I went to Raccoon River Park early in the morning as to not be embarrassed with a crowd of people watching me. The water wasn't too cold which was nice, but it sure is murky! I dipped under water to see nothing but lime green. Gross! I'm guessing Easter Lake isn't any better, and that's where my Tri is. It was hard not seeing the ground or knowing where I could touch. I'm a strong enough swimmer than I don't need to be able to touch, I just like to be able to. The current also added a new obstacle for me. I'm use to just a few splashes in the pool at the gym. Overall, it was good for me to get in the water, but I didn't swim very seriously. I'm headed back out next week to really get after it. Some YPC'ers volunteer at the Kiwanis Miracle League It was also my first time volunteering for the Miracle League. Each of us got to be a buddy for a child with a disability during their baseball game. They play almost every Saturday during the summer. I grew up playing softball; it's still one of my favorite sports. I'm glad the Miracle League helps all kids, regardless of disability, learn the game and have fun playing.
