Lucas and I attended our first prenatal class at Mercy Medical Center. The class is two hours every Wednesday for six weeks. Out of the 12 couples in the class, I was surprised that two of them have older children. Maybe they wanted a refresher. The course is taught by a registered education instructor/doula. We went over some interesting information, and I hope the next five weeks prove to be useful as well.
I also went to Baby Finance 101 offered at the hospital. I was thinking the class would talk about how much babies and children cost. How much to expect to spend on diapers, formula, medical bills, daycare, flex spending accounts and savings.
Instead, it was all about finances for adults - savings goals, 401(k), Roth IRA, life insurance, medical insurance, drafting a will - all stuff I already knew. Unfortunately, it was mostly a waste of 90 minutes.
Week 28 Preview
Well, hello third trimester. I can't believe I'm seven months pregnant. I didn't know how well I'd do being pregnant, but so far it's really been great. My biggest concern right now is that I failed the glucose test at my appointment today. My doctor requires your level to be lower than 134 mg/dL (some draw the line at 140). I was at 144 mg/dL. Now I have to do a 3-hour diagnostic test to find out if I have gestational diabetes. I really hope I don't! If you have any advice or suggestions, I'm all ears.
Baby Bump
I've gained 20 pounds now and am expecting to gain about one pound a week from here out.
