How many times a day do you use the Internet? To say "a ton" seems to be the understatement of the year. In the last 9 months, I've kept a blog, planned a wedding, worked in the media and searched for a new job without having the Internet in my home. It's amazing what can be done on my iPhone, but for many things you still need a desktop computer with access to files and documents to make things happen. In fact, it's been just shy of 2 years that I've been Internet-free. Today was my first day having it again in my home. With Lucas moving in, we decided it was worth it. I saved about $1200 by going without. That's a ton of money. Now that I have it back, I plan to get my monies out of it.
I made Lucas' dreams come true today: I watched Star Wars. I'm actually surprised he married me before I saw any of the movies. Shortly after we first started dating he found out I hadn't seen any of them and assured me he'd correct that. It's taken him quite some time, but now he has accomplished at least phase 1 of the 6-phase plan.
Luke Skywalker was super annoying with his high-pitched, puberty-stricken, overly-excited voice. Han Solo was annoying because he was sooooo tough. Chewy was annoying because he just purrs all the time. Princess Leia is a bad ass. They could all benefit greatly and reduce the movie by 20 minutes if they would take a shooting class. Their aim was unnecessarily terrible.
That being said, I am willing to watch the other 5 movies. Not all at once, but with a cup of froyo, I'll manage.
It's a great week when I get to eat at not one, but two restaurants for the first time. My Friday lunch hour was spent with my new co-workers at Alba in the East Village. This is another place I've been wanting to check out. I was not let down. My chicken, mushroom, carrot risotto was perfect. The ambiance was chill but classy. Service was good. I think the risotto was the most expensive item on the lunch menu at $9.95. Not too shabby. Everyone else also enjoyed their meals, which included burgers, sandwiches, and a frittata.
This little eatery has been on my list of places to eat since I heard about it a year or more ago. Capital Pub and Hot Dog is set up on E 6th and MLK Pkwy in a house-looking restaurant. I got the chili dog with cheese and waffle fries. It was delicious. Anywhere you can get lunch for $10 or less gets a star in my book. Now that I work just a few blocks from here, you can rest assure that I'll be back.
Today was my first day at my new job with my new name. As a public relations associate for Two Rivers Marketing, I'll track advertisement and editorial placements in print publications and online for five clients' many, many products. It's a lot to learn, but I'm excited for the opportunity and can see myself growing quickly in the PR world.
Looking at the calendar on my desk when I arrived was really the first time I saw my new name written down. I've been too busy to mentally prepare to leave Daley behind and welcome Wardenburg with open arms. After 26 years, I've become a bit attached to Daley. Is there still time to ask Lucas to take my name instead?
...I thee wed. I got my beautiful engagement ring and wedding band soldered together today. Lucas got the set at Jared's in Jordan Creek Mall and they soldered them for free in just an hour or so.
