My husband wanted to rent a movie last night, which can only mean one thing: sci-fi. I decided not to fight him on it and let him pick out whatever movie he pleased. When he settled on World War Z, I was pleasantly surprised. I don't do sci-fi, but I can do zombies (if that makes any sense).
My heart was racing withing ten minutes of the opening credits and didn't stop until about five minutes from the end. I think the screenplay was well-written and provided an intriguing 115-minute film. I can't say I've seen every zombie movie in history, but to me, I thought the plot was unique and interesting (yes, I know it was a book first). The animation of all the "z's" was pretty great. My only critique would be that they fleshed out the ending a bit more. It ended a bit abruptly for me.
When comparing World War Z's zombies to The Walking Dead's zombies, I'd much prefer to take on the latter's zombies. They are slow and stupid. The zombies in the film are crazy fast and strong and can jump way too far. The idea of that happening in real life is extremely scary. It makes me want to buy a bunch of non-perishable food, guns, and ammo and build an underground bunker. Who's with me?
