At the event called the Signature Chefs Auction, the emcee said 1 in 8 babies is born prematurely. That's a lot more than I would have ever thought. There was even a family in attendance that talked about how March of Dimes research helped provide life-saving measures for their triplet daughters who were born very prematurely weighing less than 2 lbs each. As someone who hopes to have healthy children one day in the future, I couldn't help but want to help. The evening consisted of a silent and live auction plus five chef stations with gourmet dishes to sample. Lucas and I bid on two items in the silent auction, which we did not win. When the live auction came around, we had to bow out. Items, which were pretty amazing, went for around $1,000 each. Fortunately, the opportunity came up to just make a donation not attached to a prize. We knew that was something we could do. We raised our bid card and committed to giving. You never know when a faintly heard of organization will be a life-changer for someone you know or even yourself.
